New Mexico’s Innovation Ecosystem
New Mexico’s Entrepreneurial, Innovation, and Defense Ecosystem is comprised of four military installations: Cannon Air Force Base, Holloman Air Force Base, Kirtland Air Force Base, and The White Sands Missile Range, and is home to three federal research laboratories: Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, and The Air Force Research Laboratory , and three major research universities: University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, and New Mexico Tech Institute. New Mexico suppliers are heavily concentrated along the North-South running I-25 corridor. Specifically, in the cities of Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Las Cruces. New Mexico is also home to over 200 assets (business and economic development resources) that are capable of working with suppliers to diversify and decrease their dependency on defense contracts. These assets are distributed state-wide. Together these institutions, contractors, and personnel comprise New Mexico’s Entrepreneurial, Innovation, and Defense Ecosystem.
